Newspapers
All the national and most of the local UK and Ireland newspapers have their own websites.
Bedford's 2 local newspapers are:
- Bedford Today - the website of the local newspaper the Bedfordshire Times & Citizen has all the local news, events, jobs etc.
- Bedfordshire On Sunday - the website of Bedfordshire's other local newspaper. It has details of local news, events, jobs etc.
- The Guardian - online edition of the national newspaper. The site contains the latest news and jobs as well as videos, audio and podcasts.
- The Times - online edition of The Times with UK and world news etc.
- The Telegraph - online edition of The Telegraph with UK and world news.
- NewsBank Newspapers UK - database provided by the University which allows you to search the last 10 years of all the national (and most of the local) UK and Ireland newspapers simultaneously. Articles are in full and identical to the printed versions of the newspapers.
- Lexis Newspapers - search all the UK national (and many of the local) newspapers simultaneously. Coverage goes back to the early1980s.
- Google News Archive Search - allows you to browse newspaper articles that go back over 200 years from the UK and worldwide (not everything it finds is available for free).
- Other News Archives - the university has other newspaper archives dating back to 1600 which you view by clicking on this link.
Anyone can - and will post videos on Youtube. These are fun to watch but most won't be suitable for assignments. However there are some reputable organisations which have their own Youtube channels containing some useful information:
- Age Concern England's Youtube Channel - videos from the UK's largest charity working with and for older people.
- Department for Education's Youtube Channel - videos from the government department covering schools and education with news and the latest initiatives.
- Department of Health's Youtube Channel - videos from the government department covering all aspects of health, wellbeing and healthcare.
- Home Office's Youtube Channel - videos from the government department which deals with counter-terrorism, boarder control, policing and reducing crime.
- Howard League for Penal Reform's Youtube Channel - videos from the national charity working to reduce crime, safer communities and fewer people in prison.
- Mind: The Mental Health Charity's Youtube Channel - videos from the charity offering advice and support to those with mental health issues and their families.
- Ministry of Justice Youtube Channel - videos from the government department which covers the courts, tribunals, prisons, probation services and community justice services.
- Number10gov's Youtube Channel - videos and features from 10 Downing Street and the British Prime Minister.
- Joseph Rowntree Foundation's Youtube Channel - videos from this major charity covering UK poverty, housing, globalisation and communities.
- NSPCC Channel - videos from the charity whose mission is to end cruelty to children. Their channel contains a large number of videos on all aspects of keeping children safe; including resources for professionals.
- Shelter's Youtube Channel - videos from the charity concerned with housing and homelessness.
- Social Care TV Channel - videos from the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE). The videos are aimed at anyone involved in the social care and social work sector.
- Stonewall's Youtube Channel - videos from Britain's charity which campaigns against discrimination for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
- Youth Justice Board's Youtube Channel - videos from the public body working to prevent offending and reoffending by children and young people under the age of 18, and to ensure that custody for them is safe.
